1,500 Students Attend 2nd Annual East Kern Career Expo
The Kern County Superintendent of Schools’ College and Career Programs department, in partnership with The Central Valley Mother Lode Regional Consortium, hosted the 2nd Annual East Kern Career Expo at the Mojave Air and Space Port last week.
More than 1,500 middle school and high school students from seven Kern County School attended to learn about potential careers from California’s 15 industry sectors, like Agriculture, Aerospace, Manufacturing, and Energy to name a few. Students will also learn about how pathways offered in high school can lead to potential careers.
Participating School Districts included Sierra Sands Unified School District, Muroc Joint Unified School District, Mojave Unified School District, Kernville Unified School District, Southern Kern Unified School District, El Tejon Unified School District, Kern High School District (Kern Valley High School).
“These are students who attend school here in East Kern County where they don’t have the opportunity to come to the Bakersfield area, where we’ve offered a career expo annually. So this is something for them that is right in their backyard,” John Mendiburu, Kern County Superintendent of Schools.
Additional event sponsors include Mojave Air and Space Port, Cerro Coso Community College, Rio Tino, Adventist Health, America’s Job Center, Alta One Federal Credit Union, Kern Economic Development Foundation, Stratolaunch, and Terra-Gen.
