PHOTO ESSAY: Leadership Retreat Hosted for Student Voice Ambassadors

Tuesday September 24, 2024

Dozens of students from 16 schools across Kern County gathered this week at CALM Zoo for the annual Student Voice Ambassador Program Retreat. These Student Voice Ambassadors, who have all overcome significant adversity and were nominated by their school counselors to participate in the retreat, participated in leadership stations themed around CALM’s animal habitats, where they explored ways to elevate their voices and make meaningful changes in their schools.

In addition to the activities, KCSOS’s School Community Partnerships department collaborated with students to finalize and debut an official definition of “student voice,” which is the practice of educators intentionally and continuously uplifting students’ diverse perspectives to enhance engagement and involvement in decision-making, ultimately elevating equity in schools.
