CALM’s HolidayLights Returns with New Attractions to Delight, Inspire
Friday November 22, 2024
Kern County’s most anticipated holiday tradition, HolidayLights at CALM, is back and brighter than ever. Running from November 30 through January 4, this award-winning event combines breathtaking light displays with festive activities, making it a must-visit for families and friends during the holiday season. Known as one of the top zoo light shows in the U.S. by USA TODAY and one of the best holiday events in the western U.S. by the Los Angeles Times, HolidayLights transforms the California Living Museum (CALM) into a winter wonderland of sparkling lights and holiday cheer. This year, the event features extended weekend hours, timed ticketing for smoother crowd management, and fresh branding to bring a more cozy feel to the festivities.
“HolidayLights is more than just a fundraiser; it’s a way to bring the community together to celebrate the season while supporting the care and conservation of California’s native wildlife,” said Meg Maitland, director of CALM. “We hope that all the changes we have made have added to the beauty and warmth people have come to love about HolidayLights.”
HolidayLights runs nightly from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Timed ticketing is available on weekends to ensure a smooth experience for all guests. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for children aged 3 to 11, and free for children 2 and under. Discounts are available for CALM members, military, and seniors.
HolidayLights is CALM’s largest annual fundraiser, with every ticket purchased supporting wildlife conservation and facility improvements. The event is designed and installed by Bakersfield-based Lightasmic!, ensuring a show that is both stunning and locally rooted. Tickets are on sale now at www.calmholidaylights.org.
While the millions of lights remain the centerpiece, several new and returning features enhance the event this year, offering something for everyone.

To enhance the festive atmosphere, Teen Challenge volunteers will be on-site Fridays through Sundays during the daytime hours (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), offering sweet treats to create a warm, family-friendly holiday experience. Volunteers will also assist guests in carrying and loading their trees onto vehicles.
Inside the event’s cozy Holiday Marketplace, guests can purchase ornaments, gifts, and CALM merchandise. Santa’s Workshop will be open nightly through Christmas Eve so guests can take photos with Santa.
A New Year’s Eve Celebration for Families
