The Fairfax School District has launched an exciting modernization project at Virginia Avenue Elementary School, marking a major step in the district’s ongoing commitment to improving learning environments for students and staff. The project officially broke ground Monday with district leaders, staff, and community members in attendance to celebrate the beginning of construction.
Designed by Radian Design and managed by Colombo Construction, the modernization will bring substantial improvements to both the educational and administrative spaces on campus. A central feature of the project is the reconstruction of the A-Wing, which will replace three existing classroom buildings with six new, modern classrooms designed to support collaborative and flexible instruction.
The project also includes a significant expansion of the school’s main office, an enlarged staff lounge, and additional staff restrooms to better accommodate the needs of teachers and support personnel. The upgraded facilities will enhance daily operations, promote efficiency, and provide a welcoming, professional environment for students, families, and staff.
Architecturally, the new design emphasizes openness, natural light, and functionality, while maintaining visual harmony with the surrounding community. The result will be a bright, efficient, and inspiring campus that reflects the district’s vision for 21st-century learning.
Once completed, the modernization will provide students and staff with safe, accessible, and innovative learning spaces that support academic excellence and community engagement. The project represents not only an investment in school facilities but also in the continued growth and vitality of the Fairfax community.
