Registration Now Open for Free Bridges Language and Literacy Conference

Thursday September 3, 2026

Educators from across Kern County and beyond will come together Nov. 6–7 at Bell Tower Plaza in downtown Bakersfield for the annual Bridges Connecting Language & Literacy Conference, a free professional learning event focused on strengthening literacy and language instruction for diverse student populations.

Elsa Cárdenas-Hagan, Ed.D., as our featured conference keynote speaker.

Hosted by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, Bridges brings together teachers, administrators, instructional coaches, and education advocates to explore practical, research-based strategies they can take back to their schools and classrooms.

This year’s conference centers on the theme “Amplifying Language. Advancing Literacy. Transforming Learning.”

The conference experience kicks off Friday, Nov. 6, with an optional Mix & Mingle from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Enjoy dinner, beverages, music bingo, early badge pickup, and an extra raffle ticket while connecting with fellow educators and starting the conference in a fun, welcoming atmosphere.

The experience continues Saturday, Nov. 7, beginning with check-in and a continental breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m. followed by engaging breakout sessions focused on language, literacy, and effective instructional strategies. Attendees will also enjoy a hot lunch and opportunities to connect, learn, and share throughout the day.

We are thrilled to announce Elsa Cárdenas-Hagan, Ed.D., as our featured conference keynote speaker. A nationally recognized expert in bilingual literacy, language development, and dyslexia, Dr. Cárdenas-Hagan will share research-based insights and practical strategies to strengthen language and literacy instruction for multilingual learners. We look forward to an inspiring day of learning, connection, and collaboration!
