Dr. Karling Aguilera-Fort Appointed Superintendent of Bakersfield City School District

The Bakersfield City School District Board of Education has appointed Dr. Karling Aguilera-Fort as the District’s next superintendent, formalizing his leadership following a period of service as interim superintendent.

Dr. Aguilera-Fort stepped into the interim role on July 15, 2025, earning the confidence of the Board through his steady leadership and deep commitment to students, staff, and families. Trustees voted to confirm his permanent appointment during their January meeting.

“It is truly a privilege to serve as Superintendent of the Bakersfield City School District,” Aguilera-Fort said. “I am grateful to the Board of Education for their trust and am committed to ensuring our students, staff, and families feel seen, heard, and supported every step of the way.”

With nearly 30 years of experience in public education, Dr. Aguilera-Fort brings a career rooted in equity, instructional leadership, and service. He began his professional journey as a Spanish bilingual special education teacher and has since held senior leadership roles across California, including superintendent of the Oxnard School District and deputy superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District.

Dr. Aguilera-Fort will serve as BCSD’s 16th superintendent. His contract begins January 1, 2026, and runs through June 30, 2028.

In addition to his district leadership, Aguilera-Fort currently serves as president of the California Association of Bilingual Education Board of Directors and is widely recognized for his advocacy on behalf of multilingual learners and traditionally underserved students.
