Congratulations to Ishmeet Singh on being named the Student Equity Champion at the 2024 EMBRACE Kern Equity Symposium!

Ishmeet Singh, a junior at Stockdale High School, is reshaping how students across California receive critical mental health support. He spearheaded an initiative to integrate QR codes on all school ID cards across the state, linking students directly to the mental health resources they need. Ishmeet developed and championed the idea, working with local school districts and policymakers to draft Senate Bill 1063. The legislation, sponsored by Shannon Grove (@shannongroveca) for CA, passed and was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom this year.

A huge thanks to all the representatives who joined us and made this event special and memorable for our children 🐐🚓👩‍🚒👨‍⚕️🚌. We appreciate everyone’s support in bringing our community together! 🌟👏

In support of this month, KCSOS’s Equity and Inclusion department has created a comprehensive toolkit to help students explore the diverse traditions and significant impacts of Native American peoples. Let’s come together to recognize and respect the heritage that has shaped our nation and continues to inspire.

Inspired by his son Lucas’s battle with leukemia, Tate—alongside the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (@llscentralcalifornia & @llsusa)—developed A School’s Guide for Children With Cancer, a resource to help school personnel, healthcare providers, and families navigate the unique challenges children with cancer face in educational settings.

“They’re not alone. There are people that want to help,” Tate said. “They absolutely do have somebody in their corner that wants to make good decisions and help their students.”

Originally built in 1989, the trail was recently transformed into a tranquil space for students to reflect, explore, and connect with nature. Thanks to @bakochamber’s Leadership Bakersfield Team Three, Kern Edible Schoolyards, and community volunteers, the trail is now a sanctuary for social-emotional learning and mindfulness.
